The touring Combermere High School U-19 cricket team of Barbados defeated a Wakenaam select X1 in two matches played on Sunday at the Wakenaam Community Centre ground.
In the first game which was a 40 – over affair, Combermere won by 136 runs. Combermere batted first and scored 166-8 off their allotted overs. Shayne Moseley top scored with 41 (2×4, 1×6) while Roston Chase, a Barbadian U-19 player supported with 32 (1×6, 1×4) and Justin Greaves made 30 (1×4, 1×6). National U-15 player Hassan Mohamed grabbed 2-18 off 7 overs and Vijay Surujpaul took 2-22 from 8 overs.
The home team in reply were routed for 30 in 15.3 overs. Herell Green (11) was the only batsman that reached double figures as Greaves bagged 3-3, Mosley 3-3 and Shayne Holder 2-3.
In the second game which was a Ten/10 affair, the visitors won by 2 runs. Combermere took first strike and made 84-7. Royston Chase led with 42 (2×6, 3×4) as Oyono Sampson and Nokta Moses took two wickets each for the host.
The Wakenaam select X1 then responded with 82-5 off their allotted overs. Ricardo Adams was their leading run getter with 36 (3×6) while Shayne Jones picked up 2-23 for the winners.
At the simple presentation ceremony, the visiting team presented a small bat which was signed by each member of the team to Adams the captain of the home team.
The Manager of the Combermere team said they were pleased with the hospitality they received and thanked the host. Chairman of the Essequibo Cricket Board Sheik Ahmad thanked the visitors for coming to Wakenaam.
