Shawn Porter scored twice and received support from Leon Yaw (2) and Marvin Goodman (1) to book a place in the semifinals for their team, defending champions, Bourda over LaPenitence Market 4-3 when play in the Stabroek Warriors Sports 5th Annual 5 a-side Futsul Football tournament continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) last Saturday evening.
The various matches played on that night were indeed exciting but the players played to almost empty stands due to the Guyana/Trinidad and Tobago 20/20 cricket showdown at the National Stadium, Providence.
In another match, Stabroek secured an 8-0 victory over Ann’s Grove due to successful strikes off the boot of G. Griffith (1), D. Layne (1), Gerald Whittington (4) and A. Murray (2).
Mocha Arcadia next defeated Kitty 4- 3 on penalty kicks, after play in regulation and extra time ended on a 0-0 stalemate, to advance to the semifinals stage. Mahdia was also in winners’ row, scoring a 5-0 victory over Stewartsville. Elco Oliveira was the man of the moment registering all 5 of Mahdia’s goals.
The other match to be played that night between Stewartville and Plaisance ended with victory for the former team.
The tournament now moves on to the semifinals stage starting tonight with two matches. In the first, Stabroek take on Mocha followed by Bourda up against Mahdia. There will also be two exhibition matches, one between an all women’s team.
Meanwhile, LaToya Cordis was the lucky spectator that won ball donated by West Indian Sports Complex. She scored twice out of three attempts from the penalty spot. Patrons would be able to win other prizes at the tournament tonight. Actions commences at 19:30hrs sharp.
