An attempt to plant confusion in the minds of the few who might be less informed

Dear Editor,
I respond to Peeping Tom’s article of Tuesday, August 24, captioned, “Keeping the Burnham flame alight!”
In his attempt to sow further discontent within the PNCR, this article exposes Peeping Tom for being a PPPC activist in disguise.
He hails Robert Corbin as the only person who is capable of keeping the party steadfast to the ideals of former President Forbes Burnham. And, based on that faulty premise he advocates that party members should plead with Mr. Corbin to continue in his role of Leader.
He further contends that there are only two other persons capable of holding the PNCR to the beliefs of Forbes Burnham, “But both persons are too far outside the loop at the moment and are not likely to enjoy the confidence of the party’s delegates”.
I do not know if Peeping Tom is including in his mind prominent statesman and Member of Parliament, Winston Murray, in the two persons to whom he referred.
If he has Mr. Murray in mind, then that may be the only occasion that he has managed to be as much as partially correct in the Tuesday missive.
Mr. Murray is not outside the loop of anything to do with PNCR forward movement, the ideals of Forbes Burnham and successfully leading the party in the 2011 national elections.
There is pervasive thinking among a large number of persons within and without the party that Mr. Murray is the person to re-unite the party, and the one who holds the ability to lead Guyana out of the abyss in which the PPP/C government has placed this country.
Mr. Corbin has already announced that he has no intention of contesting the next elections as the PNCR presidential candidate. Most believe that was a good decision. It is now left up to him only to resign the leadership position, giving his successor free room to go about the business of proper leadership.
Therefore the only purpose I can see in Peeping Tom’s article is an attempt to plant confusion in the minds of the few who might be less informed, hoping that any such uncertainty can redound to the benefit of the PPP/C at the polls.
The die is cast. Mr. Corbin is stepping down and the PNCR is garnering its forces for a united campaign for the 2011 elections under the leadership of Mr. Murray, in coalition with other civil and political forces outside of the party.
Meantime we shall expect more of these attempts of divisiveness from the PPP/C in the coming weeks and months.
