Woman stabbed nine times…
By Latoya Giles
As doctors continue to closely monitor 22-year-old Trishawarie Ramdharie, of Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, who was viciously stabbed about the body by her estranged husband, relatives of the woman are now saying that she suffered over three years of spousal abuse.
The woman is presently a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Hospital. This publication was told that the woman was receiving intravenous drips and oxygen. One relative said that she is conscious but is in tremendous pain.
A close relative of the woman yesterday told Kaieteur News that Ramdharie had separated from her husband over two years, but he would continue to torment her.
The relative explained that because of the constant beatings and arguments, the woman was forced to leave her matrimonial home.
She reportedly rarely spoke about the abuse with relatives, and never reported the matters because she was afraid.
“She never wanted to report the matters….she always afraid… is her children used to come and tell us everything,” said the relative.
The woman was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital after being stabbed nine times.
After arriving at the hospital, doctors quickly rushed her to the operating theatre for emergency surgery.
Kaieteur News was told that two of the wounds were in proximity of the heart and she was bleeding internally.
The incident happened around 11:00hrs on Sunday, at a close relative’s home at Enterprise, East Coast Demerara.
A relative had stated that Ramdharie’s husband had gone to the East Coast home to visit his two children. Once at the house the man reportedly called out Ramdharie and requested to speak to her. It was customary for the woman and her husband to share light conversations. However, the “light conversation” on this occasion quickly turned into an argument and the woman opted to return inside.
Kaieteur News was told that after she turned away and was heading back to the house her husband whipped out a large knife and started stabbing her repeatedly.
He then picked up a neighbour’s bicycle and rode away. The woman was picked up by relatives and taken to the hospital.
Meanwhile, Kaieteur News understands that a lawyer had contacted the police and said that his client would be turning himself in.
However, up to press time the man was not in police custody.
