The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations have been especially good for the Cove and John Hindu College this year.
According to Principal of the College, Rajkumarie Singh, 15 of the institution’s students wrote the exams, and all passed their respective subjects.
The Principal said that the students gained 51 grade ones, 47 grade twos, and 37 grade threes collectively.
The three students that topped for the college were Cliffon Chichester, Gurdial Prahalad Bhagwan and Gangadai Suklall.
The 16-year-old Cliffon Chichester, who hails from Cove and John on the East Coast of Demerara, gained seven grade ones, three grade twos, and two grade threes.
The elated student said she attributes her success to her parents who were a constant source of encouragement, and dedicated teachers. “I thank God for the wisdom, and also my dad for tutoring me late at nights.”
The ambitious young lady plans on pursuing a degree in nursing at the University of Guyana.
“I love to help people, that’s why I want to become a nurse. UG is where my journey will begin.”
Gangadai Suklall, also 16, of De Hoop, Mahaica, ECD, was another standout, with seven grade ones, two grade twos, and one grade three.
“I would like to thank God, my relatives, teachers, and my parents…everyone who helped me to succeed.” Suklall said she will be attending the University of Guyana next year since she will be assisting her parents in their agriculture business. However, her ambition is to be an accountant in the near future.
And 16-year-old Gurdial Bhagwan, also of De Hoop, Mahaica, secured three distinctions among four grade ones, and also attained three grade twos.
The young lad related that he is thankful to his teachers, and supportive parents. “I came from a poor family and God guided me to my goal.”
Bhagwan expressed gratitude to Pandit Haresh Tiwari who funded his tuition for four years at the institution.
“Without his sponsorship this success would not be possible…I made my family, community and the Hindu College proud.”
Adding that he plans to further his studies in Agricultural Science at the University of Guyana, Bhagwan said that his father being a farmer has contributed significantly to his love for agriculture, and he hopes in the future to be able to contribute significantly to the development of the agriculture sector.
Meanwhile, Principal Singh revealed that the college caters for 200 students, and stressed that the institution accepts persons of all religious persuasions, and is devoted to discipline in order to achieve excellence.
On Friday last, Education Minister Shaik Baksh unveiled the results for this year’s CSEC exams, with the Bishops’ High School recording the best overall performance.
