-Bringing in a Corvette to break the 10 seconds barrier
Constantly growing in popularity among local motor racing fans, the September 12 Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club Drag Race Meet is anticipated to produce intense rivalry between Guyana and neighbouring Suriname.
This is according to President of the GMR&SC Aaron Bethune, who spoke with Kaieteur Sport recently about the impending showdown between the two countries set for the South Dakota Circuit.
Bethune disclosed that the Surinamese who were beaten by the Guyanese on the last occasion have already declared it will be ‘war’ when they come to Guyana next month to engage in battle against the homesters.
Suriname will once again be represented by a large contingent headed by the Black Typhoon driven by Hance Yzer, while it was disclosed that a Corvette will be coming as well and the aim is to break the 10 seconds barrier over quarter of a mile.
Bethune added that the Meet is anticipated to be one of the biggest staged locally and he is urging all motor racing fans to get to the Circuit and witness the action as competitors vie for the title of who is the best drag racer.
The president further disclosed that six categories will be competed in and they are as follows:
Group A: 0 – 1600 cc; Group B: 1601-2000cc; Group C: 2001-2200cc; Group D1 Unlimited Class for 4-wheel driven cars above 2200cc and those cars with Nos; Group D2 Unlimited Class for 2-wheel driven cars above 2200cc and those with Nos; and an Open Class for Super Bikes.
The first race of the day commences at 10:00 hrs.
