The Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) has sent out congratulations to the successful Guyana Twenty20 cricket teams, who won the regional championship and have qualified for the Champions League in South Africa later this year.
The party has also offers best wishes on their involvement in South Africa. Here is the full text of the message: “WPA congratulates the Guyana cricket team on their triumph at the just concluded regional twenty-twenty tournament. Coming at a time when West Indies cricket continues to bleed we hope Guyana’s victory serves as a reminder to young Guyanese that in the midst of despair there is hope for a better day.”
“Despite the recent turmoil, cricket remains a rallying point not only for regional unity but for inter-ethnic solidarity, particularly in Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago.
As the team prepares for the tournament in South Africa, WPA appeals to the players to place national and regional pride and dignity above monetary incentives. In the final analysis what happens on the field of play goes beyond the boundary.”
