Mazaruni escapee ‘Bull Eye’ shot, recaptured
Prison escapee Nigel Williams, called ‘Bull Eye’, was shot and recaptured at around 17:00 hrs yesterday, just a month after his brazen escape from the Mazaruni penitentiary.
Police sources said that the 36-year-old fugitive was wounded in one of his legs after being cornered by Joint Services ranks near Bounty Hall, Essequibo.
Kaieteur News understands that residents had tipped off the police after recognising the escapee, who hails from Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo.
The wounded man was admitted to the Charity Hospital under guard.
It is believed that Williams had gone on a break-and-enter spree during his brief escape, since police have been receiving reports of burglaries in Charity and neighbouring communities.
Williams escaped from the Mazaruni Prison around June 23 while working with other inmates near the prison farm.
Warders realised that he was missing when they took a head count at noon.
Kaieteur News understands that the fugitive was serving a three-year prison sentence for drug trafficking.
A brother, on receiving the news of ‘Bull Eye’s’ escape, had traveled to Bartica with a view to getting his sibling to surrender.
