– uncle slain at Mowasi Landing in April
A 32-year-old miner whose uncle was brutally slain in the interior two months ago, was clubbed to death at Mahdia on Sunday night.
Vanburn Hanover, of Jonestown, Mahaica, ECD, died at the Mahdia Hospital shortly after he was found lying unconscious in front of a disco at around 23:00hrs. A length of wood was near to the victim.
The suspect, who fled the scene, has been identified as a 21-year-old unemployed Mahdia resident, who sources described as a ‘known troublemaker” in the community.
According to reports, the suspect had accosted Hanover after the miner won an undisclosed sum of money while gambling with another man.
Sources said that Hanover left the scene, but the suspect followed the miner to an area near the Mahdia Hospital and struck him in the head with a piece of wood.
The attacker then fled the scene.
Hanover was taken to the Mahdia Hospital where he died while receiving medical treatment.
Kaieteur News has confirmed that Hanover is the nephew of 40-year-old Troy Koster, also known as Troy Hanover and ‘Shine Rice’, who was hacked to death last April at a shop at Mowasi Landing, Konawaruk.
The suspect, who is still at large, had accused Hanover of stealing a quantity of raw gold.
