The National Commission on Disability is seeking to establish a register of Persons with Disabilities.
Following several campaigns that targeted the use of public transportation by persons with disabilities, a specially equipped vehicle has been purchased by the Health Ministry to assist members of the organisation and others.
Chairman of the Commission, Leon Walcott, stated that the vehicle will be used to transport persons with disabilities who live in Georgetown to the Georgetown Public Hospital and other clinics which they need to attend.
Persons with disabilities wish to make use of the facility, should make contact with the National Commission on Disability to get their names included on the register. Relatives of these persons may do so for them.
The organisation is located at 49 Croal Street Stabroek, telephone number 226-4566. Or contact can be made with the Guyana Council of Organisations for Persons With Disabilities on telephone numbers 225-0495 or 226-2880.
