The June session of the criminal assizes of the Berbice High Court commenced yesterday with the traditional ceremonial opening which included the march past done by the Guyana Police Force led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Calvin Brutus.
Presiding Judge Brassington Reynolds along with Justice Winston Patterson took the salute.
The session began with the trial of murder accused Danny Busjit, 23, of Black Bush Polder who is accused of killing Kalidas Seenarine on the 26 November 2005 at Mibicuri South Black Bush Polder.
Before the trial began, the prosecution which is being conducted by attorney at law Dionne Mc Cammon asked that instead of two charges being laid against the accused, the one of Accessory to Murder which was also instituted against Bhanmattie Singh be dropped and to proceed only with the case of murder against Danny Busjit.
The accused is being represented by attorneys at law Mursaline Bacchus and Kim Kyte.
The case was adjourned before the indictment was read after attorney Bacchus requested an early adjournment due to his involvement in a matter in the full court in Georgetown.
The matter is expected to continue today in the Berbice High Court before Justice Brassington Reynolds and a mixed jury.
There are 18 matters to be tried in the high court for this session including 10 for murder.
