The Area ‘H’ Ground is the venue tomorrow and Sunday for the final of the Diamond Fire & General Insurance Company Under-19 Inter-zone tournament, organised by the Berbice Cricket Board.
The cream of the county’s top junior cricketers would be on show as power house Lower Corentyne clash with New Amsterdam/Canje in a match that should be a close encounter with both teams boasting strong players. Each side would bat 60 overs in their first innings and play starts at 09:30hrs daily.
Lower Corentyne would be led by Berbice captain Harrinarine Chattergoon and he would be supported in the batting department by the talented Dominic Rikhi, Kandasammy Surujnarine, Clinton Pestano, Joshua Ramsammy, Shailendra Shameer, Lloydel Lewis and Shawn Pereira. Fast bowlers Clinton Pestano and Sharmendra Hardyal would spearhead Lower Corentyne’s bowling with support from off spinners Lloydel Lewis, Chattergoon, Shameer and Rikhi and leg spinners Pereira and Gudakesh Motie-Kanhai.
New Amsterdam/Canje would be led by all rounder Joemal La Fleur with Kevin Ramdeen as his deputy. They’ll receive back up in the batting from Shimron Hetmyer, Devendra Jainabi, Linden Austin, Jamally Odle, Stephen DeFreitas and Kelvin Leitch.
Pacers Derek Cadogan and Shane Sinclair would share the new ball. Off spinners La Fleur, Ramdeen and Linden Austin however are expected to do the bulk of the bowling on a track noted to support spin bowling.
Meanwhile, Upper Corentyne and West Berbice would clash at the Port Mourant ground in the 3rd place match. Upper Corentyne would be led by Berbice Under-19 opener Mark Lionel and West Berbice by Sherwin McPherson.
Officials of the Diamond Fire & General Insurance Company would be present on Sunday to distribute prizes.
