Linden Over-40 scored a decisive victory over Savage Masters when play in the 4R Masters’ Cup and Females Softball cricket tournament continued on Sunday May 30 last.
The eventual winners won the toss and elected to bat amassing a challenging 214-8 in their 25 overs. Mark Jeffery contributed a swashbuckling 78 (7×6) with support from Suresh Mohan with whose 52 contained four sixes and three fours to post an important 80 runs partnership.
Hardat Narine with 3-30 and Anil Rambarran with 2-25 from five overs each were the best bowlers for Savage Masters XI.
Jeffery returned with the ball to capture 3-34 from 5 overs to compliment his batting with support from Dennis De Meel (3-35 from 5 overs).
The two reduced the Savage Masters innings to rubble and at one stage they lost 3 quick wickets within the first 10 overs. Kennard Luke (34) and opening batsman Fallim Mohamed (21) turned in a commendable performance (40 in 8 overs) to steady the innings somewhat. Both batsmen eventually succumbed and the Savage Masters were eventually dismissed for 151 in 18.3.
Sage Masters XI are now required to win at least 3 out of their 4 remaining games to qualify for the quarter-finals.
