National cyclist Geron Williams impresses in Trinidad and Tobago
National cyclist Geron Williams recently enjoyed a successful sojourn in Trinidad and Tobago where he competed in the Southern Games, Easter Grand Prix and the Beacon Series between March 18-April 24, and has impressed cycling administrators in that country.
A correspondence dispatched to President of the Continental Cycle Club, Cheryl Thompson hails Williams’ achievement as exemplary. The correspondence also notes that Williams’ participation in the various events were “great in the face of stiff competition from among the strongest international field that Trinidad has had in the last few years.” The Trinidad and Tobago authorities further expressed gratitude to the local continental Cycling Club for allowing Williams to be a part of the Trinidad staged events.
The young cyclist participated in the 2010 Southern Cycling Criterium in Marabella San Fernando and placed second from a field that included Michael Larson of Denmark, the eventual winner and Jackie Simes of the USA.
Williams then competed in the TTCF/Sport Company of T&T Easter Grand Prix at the Arima Velodrome and experienced fluctuating fortunes.
On Friday April 2 he place 5th in the 6 laps race while improving his placing in the 5 laps race where he placed 3rd.
The young cyclist then bettered his performance by placing second in the International 30 lap main event.
He continued his good showing on Saturday April 3 with a win in the Category 2 Elimination race; Devil takes the Hindmost, before finishing 3rd in the International race lap event. The following day, Sunday 4 the astute cyclist defeated the field of stars copping the premium prize in the Category 2 elimination, Devil takes the hindmost race. He then finished in third place in the International 30 laps race event.
Williams suffered mixed fortunes in the final event of his tenure capturing two third and one fourth place in category one and category 2 six laps race at Skinner Park.
His worst placing occurred in the International and Invitational 40 laps Criterion at the King George V Park where he placed seventh.
