Merely forty eight hours to the first bell of the fourth edition of the ProAm boxing card scheduled for this Friday, May 28, the participating boxers are all exuding confidence and boxing buffs can be assured of an action packed night of fistic fury.

If looks could kill! Troy Lewis (left) and Iwan Azore exchange venomous stares after exchanging vitriolic words.

If looks could kill! Troy Lewis (left) and Iwan Azore exchange venomous stares after exchanging vitriolic words.

The various boxers convened at the NCN Studios, Homestretch Avenue last Tuesday afternoon and as usual, entertained their colleagues and a large television audience, trading caustic words and vitriolic comments and judging from the threatening language that permeated the NCN Studios, most of the professional fights could very well be abbreviated.

The fight between Iwan Azore and Troy Lewis seems to be the one that has caught the imagination of boxing buffs. Both fighters sat in the NCN studios with referee Eon Jardine strategically positioned between them.

This did not stop the two fighters from hurling ‘damaging’ words at each other. Lewis presently has the record of scoring the fastest knockout since the inauguration of the ProAm card. It took him less than two minutes to dispose of Rudolph Fraser. Azore is not impressed! “I am no Rudolph Fraser, I am Iwan Azore,” he warned Lewis.

“I don’t see it making much of a difference,” retorted the stocky Lewis.

Don’t you have any respect for my name, Iwan (I won)?” retorted Azore.

“All I know is that you had better come prepared to fight,” declared Lewis over referee Jardine’s shoulders.

Azore is the local junior/welterweight champion and the situation reached a head when Lewis promised that he would be coming after his title soon. “Do you want to fight for the title right now?” asked Azore.

“Anytime you please,” shot back Lewis.

The two continued with the verbal tirade until president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Peter Abdool intervened and urged to transfer their animosity to the ‘square jungle.’ Fans would just have to be at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) to witness the culmination of the exchanges.

Kwesi Jones has been improving leaps and bounds ever since the ProAm bouts started. He has notched up victories over Edmond DeCleau and quite recently, James Walcott.

On Friday he attempts to register his third victory against Eversley Brown. The latter fighter has lost his lone bout on the ProAm cards but pointed out that he has been away from the ring for sometime.

The lanky Brown has shaken off the ring rust and regained a measure of confidence and would be out to score his first victory at the expense of Jones. How well he can perform this feat will be seen come Friday night.

The other two professional bouts between Clifton Barker against Shawn Pyle and Kwinda Rogers up against Sharon Ward will be the appetizers to a well prepared occasion. Fans would not want to miss a round of the action.

Meanwhile, Mr. Abdool is heartened by the corporate response received so far. He is especially thankful to Courts (Guyana) Ltd, Ansa McAl, Giftland, Castrol and Digicel. The GBBC boss is also pleading for additional support from corporate Guyana.
