NA United face Monedderlust; Rosignol oppose Cougars on Sunday
The battle for places in the final of the Coca Cola sponsored Berbice Football Association (BFA) organised senior knock-out tournament is set for Sunday at the Blairmont Community Centre Ground, West Coast Berbice.
Earning the right to the semi-finals are former BFA division-one league champs, West Coast based Monedderlust who will face old rivals New Amsterdam United in the first semi with the feature clash pitting another West Coast based side, Rosignol United against Cougars.
In quarter-final play last weekend, the senior clubs showed no mercy on their less experienced counterparts, hammering their opponents into submission.
In the feature clash, Cougars FC behind an 8 goal haul by Winston Benjamin mauled the hapless Hopetown United 11-4.
Benjamin found the back of the nets in the 4th, 19th, 25th, 36th, 56th, 70th, 74th and 79th minutes. Hopetown tried for all their worth to stem the flow of goals but were unable so to do. They were able to equalize and take the lead on the heels of a double from Sean Graham (11, 17) but their dominance was short lived as Benjamin ran riot.
Stephen DeFlorimonte on the stroke of halftime, Horace Roache six minutes into the second half and Daylon Faria in the 64th minute were the other goals scores for the winners. Hopetown got their third compliments of an own goal.
Monedderlust advanced in emphatic fashion, banging their way to a whooping 9-1 win over Strike Force United; the game reduced to 70 minutes.
Quacey Bailey, who netted a brace, opened the flood gates two minutes into the game. Strike Force leveled the score in the 13th minute through Vacacy Samuels but as it turned out, it was their only success of the game.
Monedderlust’s Elvis Croal converted in the 17th and 19th minutes and Travis Edwards two minutes later as the first half ended 4-1.
In the final 35 minutes, Strike Force could not have averted the onslaught that was coming their way. Anthio Wallis banged in a hat-trick (41, 55, and 60), Bailey was on target again in the 44th minute while Dwain Guilford found the back of the nets in the 59th. Unfortunately for Monedderlust, Guilford was later given marching orders by Referee Ingram Johnson for violent conduct in the 67th minute.
Semi-final play will kick at 14:00hrs on Sunday.
