Gunners, Young Achievers and Walton Hall recorded victories when the Caricom Rice Mill Twenty/20 cricket competition commenced last Saturday in North Essequibo.
At Anna Regina, Gunners defeated Walton Hall by 15 runs.
Gunners batted first and scored 140-7 off their allotted overs.
Keron Sewnarine led with 46 while Mark Tyrell made 27 and Herry Green 21. Vasan Lall took 2-17. Walton Hall in reply managed 125 all out in 19 overs. Tamesh Ramesh top scored with 45 and Sukraj Sookdeo contributed 26 as Sewnarine returned to capture 4-13.
At the same venue at 2 pm Young Achievers got the better of Charity by 7 wickets. Charity took first strike and managed 138-8 in 20 overs. Noel Adams was their leading run getter with 46 as Tameshwar Dhanpaul bagged 4-14 and Kishan Jaikarran 2-22 for Young Achievers who responded with 139 -3 in 18.3 overs. Floyd Henry slammed an unbeaten 44, while Damien Wharton supported with 30 not out.
At Lima, Walton Hall overcame the host by 47 runs. Walton Hall took first turn at the crease and rattled up 151-7 in 20 overs with Tamesh Ramesh 30, Suraj Sookdeo 27 and Uvendra Balgobin 27 leading the way, while Nand Bahadur and Subash Maipaul picked up two wickets each.
Lima in reply could only muster 104 in 18.3 overs. Rajeev Manichand stroked 55 as L. Singh 4-12, Suraj Sookdeo 3-8 and Suresh Persaud 2-30 did the damage with the ball for the winners.
