May 13, 2010 Letters
Dear Editor,
The essential significance of what was conveyed in the letter from Tacuma Ogunseye as appeared in SN of Saturday, May 8, 2010, chills the conscience of every peace-loving Guyanese.
Note well Ogunseye’s proudness in referring to what he described as “armed African militants,” as was experienced in the country two years ago and currently he asks, nay promotes, extra-parliamentary forms of struggle.
Nothing is wrong with extra-parliamentary forms of protest, so long as it is practiced within the provision of the law. Armed struggle is something else and I dare say it is to be expected that fire will be met with fire. However, what is the struggle that Ogunseye refers, there is no suppression existing in Guyana. Rather, there is an over surfeit of freedom in this country. There is equal opportunity to all Guyanese. Just examine the make-up of the workers in every sphere of employment.
Indeed, the public servants will disclose a heavily-weighted preference for a particular Guyanese over all others that comprise the total make up. Show me the need for struggle Brother Ogunseye!
