The two men who were detained to assist with investigations in to the death of 57-year-old, Inshan Ally, were released from police custody some time yesterday.
A source close to the investigation said that the investigation has reached a dead end since persons who may have witnessed a fight between the men and Ally are not coming forward.
Initially, persons in the area had stated that Ally was beaten by some men. However, no one has since come forward to support that bit of information.
One week ago Ally’s body was pulled from a canal in Goed Fortuin after he had gone missing for two days.
A post mortem later revealed that the man died as a result of asphyxiation due to drowning and blunt trauma to the head. However, the police were trying to establish whether the hit to the head was as a result of Ally plunging into the trench or if a blow was inflicted by someone.
