Police officers acting on a tip off, on Friday, seized a container destined for Ali’s Bakery, on the West Coast of Berbice. It contained more than 270 shotgun cartridges. The operation occurred at a city wharf.
According to police sources the shipping agent was “sim.cargo”. Kaieteur News understands that the officers went to the wharf and opened the container in front of Customs officers.
This newspaper was told that the officers were “destuffing” the container and the ammunition was found in baking pans.
The consignee for the container was not present, but the police were able to contact and detain the shipping agent.
There was no comment from Commissioner of Police, Henry Greene.
