The recently re-opened and much improved Hotel Tower in Main Street Georgetown has pumped $500,000 into the senior Female 50-overs Inter County cricket competition which concludes tomorrow at the Enmore ground on the East Coast of Demerara.
Defending champions Demerara battle Berbice from 09:30hrs tomorrow for the first prize of $100,000 and the Hotel Tower trophy while the runner-up will collect $50,000 and a trophy.
The Player-of-the-tournament will also receive a cash prize.
The official launch of the tournament was done during the lunch break of yesterday’s penultimate round clash between Berbice and Essequibo at the Wales Community Centre ground in West Bank Demerara.
Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Anand Sanasie told the gathering that Hotel Tower was pleased to be associated with the competition at time when the GCB was trying to lift the standard of female cricket in Guyana and also trying to provide financial rewards for the young ladies as is with the case with men’s competitions at this level.
Sanasie thanked the Hotel, which also accommodates Guyana’s most modern night club (the Edge night club) for their support and informed that the GCB has also acquired sponsorship from Royal Woodworking for its under-19 female Inter-County tournament.
Hotel Tower’s Account Prahalad Dwarka handed over the sponsorship cheque to Claude Raphael, Chairman of the national senior selection panel in the presence of Sanasie and GCB’s Competitions Committee member Colin Europe.
