Tigers in vicious mode with 6-0 mauling of Den Amstel

 

Santos and BK Western Tigers overcame their West Demerara opposition in last Saturday’s Mayor’s Cup football fixtures at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground.

Santos scored in either half to go past Uitvlugt 2-0 in a keenly contested game. Goals came in the in the 3rd minute from Kacy John, who opened the scoring for the winners. Neither team could trouble score sheet as Uitvlugt battled for the equaliser nor Santos for a distinct advantage as the game came to the halfway mark.

Carlos Matthews scored in the 62nd minute to comfortably seal the game Santos’ way in the end.

The feature contest saw a revamped BK Western Tigers mauling Den Amstel 6-0 in a one sided affair.  The Tigers has lost a few senior players earlier this year due to some internal turmoil, but the side has comfortably regrouped and is marching forward.

Nedd Fraser opened the rout in the 6th, while Lyndon Pickett in the 7th made the score 2-0 in rapid succession. Fraser completed his double strike in the 37th to see the Tigers enjoying a handsome 3-0 advantage going into the interval.

After the resumption, the teams battled, but the Tigers reigned supreme when Gideon Payne with in a 10 minute span fired home a double in the 76th and 86th. Sherman David (86) rifled home seconds later to crown the powerful statement made by the Tigers that they are the team to beat in this tournament.

The action in the tournament will continue on Friday at the GFC with the first of a double that was rescheduled from last week.

Riddim Squad will open the evening against Grove Hi Tech, while defending champions Pele are down to face Seawall FC.

The other rescheduled fixture from last week will be contested next Wednesday, April 21, with GDF coming up against BV Triumph in the early fixture, while Alpha collide with Victoria Kings in the nightcap.
