MHS blow-out Kwakwani Secondary
Defending Victory Valley (VV) Royals schools’ basketball champions, Mackenzie High School swooped to an easy 68-32 points’ victory against Kwakwani Secondary School at the Mackenzie Sports Club Basketball Court.
Dellon Campbell scored 14 points for High School while Devol Wilson added 11 points and Sheldon Noel 10 points. High School had led 30-25 at halftime as Kwakwani totally lost their way in the second half of the game.
Dominique Douglas was the leading scorer for Kwakwani with 10 points. Parliamentary Secretary for Sports, Steve Ninvalle did the jump ball and was introduced to both teams, along with Region 10 Parliamentarian, Vanessa Kissoon.
The six contending schools are New Silver City Secondary, Linden Foundation Secondary, Mackenzie High, Linden Technical Institute, Kwakwani Secondary and Christianburg/ Wismar Secondary. They all participated in a March Past.
“You have to play as a team and you could achieve more. You might be looking at this as just a game for your school but there are other individuals here, who’re thinking of bigger plans,” Linden’s Physical Education Officer, Lindsay Longhorn said.
Also in attendance at the opening was Digicel’s Sales Manager, Dwayne Scott, who told those present that the telecommunications giant was pleased to be associated with the tournament because it aides in the development of sport.
President of the Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA), Abdulla Hamid concurred with Scott, adding that Digicel has tremendously helped the proliferation of the tournament with bringing Kwakwani to join them.
