The West Indies Cricket Council for the Blind has endorsed its Secretary General Bhawani Persad for the position of Secretary General of the World Blind Cricket Council.
Other nominees from the region are Clevedon Mayers (Vice President) and Vivalyn Latty-Scott (Development Director of the Americas).
The meeting of the World Blind Cricket Council will take place electronically on April 18. These decisions were taken during the board’s recent meeting in Trinidad where members expressed concern about the recent developments in Trinidad & Tobago and offered to mediate.
Plans for the 5th regional championships of cricket for the blind have begun, with the tournament to be held in Barbados from June 5-13 in two parts.
In the first phase of competition all teams will meet each other in 40-over games for the league championships.
In the second phase there will be a T/20 knock-out competition involving the four top teams from the league. They will vie for a challenge trophy in memory of Phillip Herrell, the former St Lucia/Windward Islands and West Indies player who passed away in April 2008.
Meanwhile, the Australian blind cricket team will visit Barbados from June 3-20.
The Australians will play T/20 games against national blind cricket teams from the respective West Indies nations.
Australian will also play three 50-over games and two T/20 games from June 15-19.
