A total of 55 students drawn from 9 schools in the Lower Corentyne area were honoured by the cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club under the Club’s 4th Annual Lower Corentyne Outstanding Students Awards Scheme for their performances at the 2009 end of year test and their involvement in sports.
The students were drawn from the Rose Hall Town Primary, Port Mourant Primary, Belvedere Primary, Rose Hall Town Nursery, Ankerville Nursery, Lower Corentyne Secondary, Corentyne Comprehensive, Port Mourant Secondary and JC Chandisingh Secondary Schools.
Secretary/CEO of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Hilbert Foster hailed the junior cricket teams of the club for their foresight in honouring their peers for their outstanding performances in the field of education and sports.
The 2009 National Sports Commission, Sports Personality Awardee stated that education is the key to success and urged the students to remain focused in their pursuit of a sound educational background. He also advised them to listen to positive advice at all times and to be careful in choosing friends. Each of the awardees received $8,000 worth of educational and hygiene materials along with Lower Corentyne Outstanding Student Certificates.
The programme was organised by the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17, Pepsi Under-19, Metro Female and Gizmos & Gadgets Under-23 teams.
