Two senior officials of the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) were yesterday suspended for allegedly deviating from procurement procedures, as investigations into purchasing practices continue at the Corporation.
GuySuCo officials last evening confirmed that the procurement manager of the agricultural parts division and his female deputy were both given suspension letters.
While it was unclear how long the two are suspended for, Kaieteur News was told that the results of an interim audit was handed to GuySuCo’s Board of Directors earlier this week and based on the findings, the decision was taken to send them home.
The suspension of the two followed closely on the heels of the dismissal of Aasrodeen Shaw, former Manager of the Material Management Department (MMD) almost two weeks ago.
Shaw was in charge of the two officials at the MMD.
GuySuCo had announced recently that they were calling in the police to probe possible criminal wrongdoing in the procurement division.
Chairman of GuySuCo, Dr. Nanda Gopaul, confirmed reports that the Corporation was moving to have charges laid, once there is evidence of criminal misconduct by any of the staffers.
