The Second Annual Diamond Fire & General Insurance Company sponsored Under-19 Inter Zone tournament organised by the Berbice Cricket Board is set to bowl off today and continue tomorrow.
The Tournament which involves four zones – West Berbice, New Amsterdam/Canje, Lower Corentyne and Central/Upper Corentyne will see teams batting a maximum of 60 overs in their first innings.
West Berbice will clash with New Amsterdam/Canje at Rose Hall Canje, while Lower Corentyne collide with Central/Upper Corentyne at Port Mourant.
All the teams would also be outfitted with coloured tee shirts compliments of the sponsor. Public Relations Officer of the Berbice Cricket Board, Hilbert Foster stated that the Inter Zone tournament was an important part of the Board’s development plan as the Junior Selection Committee would select the Berbice Under-19 team based on performances in this tournament. Berbice would start its defence of both the One Day and Three day titles on April 11 against Essequibo and a 14-man squad to commence training would be named after this competition.
Both matches start at 09.30hrs daily.
The respective winner’s meet in the final scheduled for next Wednesday and Thursday while the losers compete in the third place game.
