A team of table tennis players scheduled to participate in the 5th Caribbean Cadet Table Tennis Championships in Utuado Puerto Rico winged out of Guyana this morning for that American territory and manager, Deirdre Edghill is confident that the youngsters would do Guyana proud.
Ms Edghill is not the only person spouting confidence as Western Union has demonstrated similar confidence by donating cash and kind to the youngsters. Yesterday afternoon, at the Water Street offices, Marketing Manager of Western Union, Natheeah King handed over a cheque valued $100,000 to Ms Edghill along with sweaters to outfit the entire team.
Those participating in the tournament are Chelsea Edghill, Jamal Duff, Joseph Johnson, Precilla Greaves (U-13), Jeremy Singh and Amit Mookram (U-10).
Shortly after receiving the donation, Ms Edghill expressed gratitude even as she pledged to tutor her team to championship honours. She noted that Guyanese players had won the championships in the U-12 category last year and were confident of repeating the feat.
Ms. King said that her organization was extremely delighted to be a part of the development of the young table tennis players. She wished them good luck even as she pledged future support towards their cause.
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
