A 24 year-old man has been remanded to prison after being charged with abducting Andre Barnes. The accused, Renaldo Marks, of 29 Louisa Row, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, made his appearance yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.
It is alleged that on March 12 last, Marks abducted Andre Barnes with the intent to hold him for a ransom. It is also alleged that on the same day he provided a police corporal with false information so that he would not be charged. That is to say that he give a wrong name to the police. Both charges were indictable and Marks was not required to plea.
Meanwhile Police Prosecutor Stephen Telford objected to bail and asked that the matter be handed down for a later date so that they can get further legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions. Hence the accused was remanded and the matter has been put off until April 9.
Also, later in the day, the accused made yet another court appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Court 5 – on this occasion before Magistrate Hazel Octive Hamilton.
Marks was read the charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
It is alleged that on March 12 last, Marks had in his possession one 9 mm Jennings pistol without being the holder of a valid firearm licence. It is also alleged that he had in his possession 10 matching rounds for the firearm. The charge was indictable and once again the accused was not required to plea. The matter has also been put down for April 9.
