Stag Beer/EBFA League to climax on Sunday
East Bank football fans are in for a treat on Sunday when the 2009 Stag Beer sponsored East Bank Football Association division-one league is set to conclude with a double header.
The competition which is being played over two rounds will go down to the wire to decide who will lift the championship trophy.
Just a single point separates leaders Timehri Panthers (21) and Grove Hi Tec and the two will clash in the final game of the competition on Sunday at the Grove Playfield. The penultimate game of the league brings together Kuru Kururu Warriors already assured of the 3rd place on 16 points and Yarrowkabra FC on 12 points in their debut season at this level.
In what can be termed a major upset in the league, Kuru Kururu Warriors defeated Grove 2-1 last Sunday. The ever improving Warriors got their goals from Sherwyn Mc Tenwyrg in the 6th minute and Shannon Vickery in the 19th. Grove struck back in the 45th minute through John Matthews. The home team fought desperately in the second half for the equaliser but was denied by the determined Warriors.
Timehri Panthers also won by a similar margin over Yarrowkabra. For the winners, Dexter Ferrel netted in the 54th and Lawrence Steele in the 83rd minute. Yarrowkabra’s consolation came off the boot of Terrence Ducraj.
Kick off time on Sunday is 13:00hrs.
