A Guyanese man, who was among six that escaped from an immigration holding facility in Trinidad, was recaptured in a forest, media reports from that country says.
Police and Immigration officials up to late Tuesday were searching for four nationals of Vietnam who were among the detainees that escaped from the Immigration Detention Centre (IDC) in Wallerfield.
They were discovered missing around 4 am by immigration officials during a routine check on inmates, police said.
Police are working on the theory that the detainees broke several louvres. They used a bed frame as a ladder by jamming it on the fence and placing some cushion material on the razor wire to escape from the facility.
The escapees were identified as Tran Xuan-Tinn, Tran Xuan-Dang, Tran Ven-Gong and Nguyen Ziel-Toan. Recaptured were Mookesh Persaud, of Guyana and Iranian Dariush Vatandouet Bazkiaei aka Gholamali Ghanikhah.
They were held shortly after the escape.
Ghanikhah was waiting to be extradited to the Netherlands to face charges of human trafficking and falsifying of travel documents.
Police said that this was the second escape at the facility. Last December, a Guyanese national escaped from the facility but was held in the Valencia district.
