Forbes Burnham 87th birth anniversary road race set for East Coast
Following rivalry on the West Demerara tomorrow morning, cyclists will have a short break before battling again, this time on the East Coast in the 87th Birth Anniversary road race for former President of Guyana, Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
The event, sponsored by the Forbes Burnham Foundation is being organised by the Guyana Cycling Federation with a distance of approximately 34 miles.
Race time is 14:00hrs starting on Carifesta Avenue, proceeding to Belfield and back to the starting point for the finish.
Prizes will be awarded to the 1st – 6th place finishers overall while the first 3 juniors and veterans will also cash in. A total of 10 prime prizes, 5 on the upward journey and an equal amount on the downward sojourn will be at stake.
Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham was born on February 20, 1923 and died on August 6, 1985. He was the leader of Guyana from 1964 until his death; Prime Minister from 1964 – 1980 and President from 1980 to 1985. (Franklin Wilson)
