Santos FC pulled out all the stops to turn back the challenge of Alpha United by the odd goal in three in extra time to take the final semi final spot in the 2009 De Sinco Trading sponsored Georgetown Football Association (GFA) Under-19 tournament.
Alpha took the lead at the GFC ground in a closely fought encounter late in the second half. Marcello Yansen broke the stalemate to hand the ‘Hammer’ the lead in the 63rd minute but with 11 minutes to full time, Santos finally found the back of the nets with a William Europe on target.
The remaining minutes failed to separate the two sides pushing the encounter into extra time. Santos did not linger too long and 3 minutes (93rd) into the first half a Jevon Hussein goal sent Santos ahead and as it turned out, it was the winning strike.
They now join Sunburst Camptown, Pele and Fruta Conquerors in the semi final which will be played on Sunday morning at different venues.
