Talented National under-19 left-handed cricketer Andre Stoll hit a robust 34 and took 3 wickets in a losing effort against host Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in the opening round of the Georgetown Cricket Association’s (GCA) Yann’s 40-over U-19 cricket competition.
Essequibo U-17 Skipper Dwayne Singh grabbed 4-46 and leg-spinner Pernell London 3-32 as MSC, on the back of an entertaining 81-run last wicket partnership, recovered from 127-9 to reach 208 all out in hazy sunshine.
Opener Delon Moffett (20) and Skipper Shaquille Willaims (34) failed to build on good starts before the last wicket pair of fast bowlers Carlyle Collins who finished unbeaten on 30 and Kevin Fredericks who made 34, ensured that the home team passed the 200-run mark.
In Reply, Police fell for 154 with Randolph Knights (33), Dwayne McPherson (34) and Stoll, in his first game since fracturing his finger last year, offered some resistance on a slow track with some bounce.
Collins followed up his important innings with 2-7 while former national under-15 player Carlos La Rose (3-31) and leg-spinner Steven Sankar (2-26) supported well for MSC.
