Police are hunting for three bandits who shot a 44-year-old Brazilian miner dead at Oku Backdam, Cuyuni, on Wednesday before escaping with an undisclosed quantity of raw gold.
A police press release said that Evanero Altantara, Tarmo Aglenzinia and Maria De Jesus were in their camp when three men, armed with a handgun, cutlass and knife attacked and beat the miner’s wife while demanding gold.
The robbers then went to the mining pit where they confronted Tarmo and assaulted the Brazilian before shooting him in the back.
The men then fled with a quantity of gold.
Tarmo succumbed to his injuries. Efforts are being made to transport the body to Georgetown.
