Two men have been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 39-year-old, Bomeshwar Sukhdeo. The two, Balram Singh and Bharrat Narine, appeared at the Providence Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Priya Beharry.
It is alleged that between January 19 and January 27, the duo murdered Sukhdeo. The charge was indictable and the two who were unrepresented were not required to plea.
Police Prosecutor, Kevin London, told the court that between January 19 and January 27, the two killed Sukhdeo after stealing his car.
The prosecutor told the court that acting on information received, the police went to a location in Herstelling, East Bank Demerara where they located the stolen car. The number one accused, Balram Singh, was subsequently arrested and according to the prosecutor further information led them to the number two accused.
The two men then pointed investigators to the charred remains believed to be that of Sukhdeo.
The court was told that the number one accused has since admitted to the police that the deceased was shot in the head and subsequently burnt. The Magistrate remanded the duo until March 15 when they are expected to make their next court appearance.
Last Thursday, the charred remains of a male of East Indian ancestry, identified as that of the missing taxi driver, Bomeshwar Sukhdeo, called Anil, was discovered on the Mocha Arcadia access road.
And later that same evening the police arrested a prime suspect.
The suspect, Balram Singh, of Agricola, Greater Georgetown, has reportedly admitted to selling Sukhdeo’s car to a taxi service in Grove, East Bank Demerara.
According to reports, Balram Singh, during interrogation, said that the idea was hatched when the owner of the Grove Taxi Service indicated that he would be happy if he could get a wagon similar to the one he once owned.
The taxi service owner had crashed his wagon but he had the documents. He indicated that if he could get an identical wagon then he would simply transfer his documents to that vehicle after it would have been modified.
Meanwhile, even as charges have been laid against the men, the relatives are still awaiting the results of a DNA test to confirm that the remains are those of Sukhdeo.
