The Assemblies of God Church last Saturday afternoon graduated six of its members in West Berbice with Diplomas as Christian workers.
The graduation or commencement exercises were held at the Glad Tidings Assemblies of God Church at Number 12 Village, West Coast Berbice. Rev. John. O. Smith, General Superintendent of AOG, Guyana, senior members of the national body and a number of overseas guests were among those involved in the ceremony.
The exercise marked the end of a four-year long in-service training programme which included theological theory and field exercises, principal of the Bible School, Rev. Edward T. Boyal disclosed.
Those who successfully completed it were Brentnol Alexander Carmichael, Orlene Rosetta Daniels, Doreen Sandra Hamilton, Claudette Wendy Johnson, Nefta Negesti McFarlane and Ramchand Kelvin Ramnauth.
McFarlane was adjudged the best all round student.
The graduates were described as transformers based on the transformation of their lives through faith in Christ.
The three-hour long programme at the gaily decorated Church at Number12 included scripture readings, musical renditions, presentations of diplomas, an address by the General Superintendent and a benediction.
In a rousing feature address to the graduates and members of the Church present, Rev. Smith stressed that there were many people in the community who were searching for Christ but didn’t know it.
“The drunk is looking for salvation but thinks it is in a bottle,” he said.
“When he gets sober, unless he remains perpetually drunk, he is once again face to face with his problem, with no end in sight. Some use drugs.”
“We need transformation in our society.
There are many who need to know that Christ is the answer. Go out there and transform them and make them living testimonies within your communities,” he thundered.
There were also addresses by AOG’s Director of the Christian Education Department, Rev. Lynette Smith, members of the Committee of Administration, Rabindranauth Lakhan. BA, Rev. Tessa Smith. BA, Rev. Victor Johnson .Dip; Pastor Lena Daniels Dip and Rev. Dale Persaud.
