National Coach Laurie Adonis in an invited comment with Kaieteur Sport following a practice session with the national rugby squad disclosed that the players are right where he would like them to be one week before departure.
Adonis, who along with his Assistant Clinton Clarke has been taking the team through their paces in preparation for the upcoming IRB International Sevens Series which is slated to be staged in Las Vegas, USA from February 13-14 said that they’ve followed fully the programme set by Technical Director of the team Joe Whipple and from his perspective they are ready to rumble against the best countries in the world.
“These guys have worked hard despite the constraints and we are going there to do our best,” he pointed out.
He singled out players such as captain Claudius Butts, Theodore Henry, Richard Staglon, overseas-based Kevin McKenzie, Rupert Giles, Dominic Lespierre and Albert LaRose as key players to their quest to do well.
“These players have all had international exposure before and know what it is to play at that level and coupled with that of the Captain, Theo (Henry) and Staggie (Richard Staglon) they are expected to guide those that with relatively little knowledge at the highest stage.”
Meanwhile, the team is Claudius Butts (Captain), Ryan Gonsalves, Peabo Hamilton, Richard Staglon (Trinidad and Tobago-based), Theodore Henry, Dwayne Schroeder, Ronald Mayers, Walter George, Rupert Giles, Dominic Lespierre and Kevin McKenzie (UK-based) and Albert LaRose (Canada-based).
