Defeat Albion by 6 wickets
A dazzling all-round performance from former national Under-15 player and Captain Dominic Rickey led Rose Hall Town Bakewell (RHTB) to an easy 6-wicket victory over Albion in the final of the 2009 Leslie Amsterdam Memorial tournament which was played at the Port Mourant ground after the Berbice Cricket Board acceded to a request from Albion for a neutral venue.
Batting first after winning the toss, Albion were given a 15 run start by opener Surujnarine Kandasammy and Sachin Dhaniram before offspinner Dominic Rickey who opened the bowling dismissed Dhaniram, caught by Neil Pike for 5.
Opener Kandasammy and No. 3 batsman Shailendra Hardyal then added 37 to take Albion to 52-2 in the 21st over before Hardyal was caught behind by Collis Cort for 16 and without addition to the score; the dangerous Andy Mohan was dismissed via the same combination for 0.
Kandasammy soon followed caught and bowled by Lewis for a well played 29 at 61-4 and worse was to follow for Albion at 70-5 when Captain Veerapen Permaul was bowled by Rickey for 2. Davendra Pottaya was then trapped LBW by West Indies female leg spinner Shemaine Campbell for one as Albion slipped to 75-6 before being dismissed for an inadequate 97 off 45 of their allotted 60 overs.
Rajendra Dasrat batting at No. 7 scored 15 but received no assistance from the tailenders who crumbled to the impressive RHTB bowling attack. Offspinners Rickey 4-28 from 14 overs and Lewis 3-22 off 11 overs led the bowling while pacer Kelon Sinclair, Campbell and legspinner Shawn Perreira took one wicket each.
Needing to score 98 runs off 60 overs to secure the title, the Rose Hall Town Bakewell opening pair of Dominic Rickey and Kelon Sinclair added 32 for the first wicket before Sinclair smashed a full toss from legspinner Avinash Wajib straight into the hands of Rajendra Dasrat at deep midwicket to depart for 23.
Shemaine Campbell was bowled by Wajib for a duck with the score at 32-2. But Shawn Perreira batting at No. 4 and his skipper Rickey then added 40 for the 3rd wicket to calm the nerves of the team before the impressive Wajib dismissed Rickey caught and bowled for 35.
Lloydel Lewis joined Perreira to take the team closer to the target before Perreira in a mix up with Lewis was run out for 25 at 94-4 in the 45th over.
Lewis 17* with 2 boundaries then guided RHTB to victory with Surendra Kissoonlall as the team ended on 102-4. Wajib ended with 3-38 off 13 overs.
