Police are currently trying to track down a car which was used during a midmorning robbery on a local diamond dealer.
Reports are that the businessman, Regan Pollard, of 195-196 Kaieteur Road, Bel Air Park, was attacked by three gunmen who were waiting in a car not far from his home.
This newspaper was told that Pollard was robbed of some $5 M.
According to reports, Pollard and his driver were approaching the gate when a car pulled up alongside them and the men exited the car. Two men went to Pollard and his driver as the third man stayed in the car. After holding Pollard and his driver at Gunpoint, the men forced Pollard to hand over a bag containing the money.
The men then calmly went back to their vehicle and fled the area.
One eyewitness told this newspaper that some clients who were apparently waiting on Pollard were forced to lay face down in front of the yard as the gunmen carried out their attack. Persons said they heard someone screaming, ‘Don’t shoot’.
Meanwhile, this newspaper has been informed that Pollard’s driver has been detained. Up to press time it was still not clear if the businessman’s driver was released from police custody.
In addition, the police are trying to locate the car which was used in the robbery since they have been provided with the number plate of the vehicle.
Sources close to the investigation have also revealed that they are trying to identify the gunmen as they have been able to get footage of the robbery from a security camera.
