Albion, Rose Hall Canje and D’ Edward Cricket Clubs have advanced to the semi-finals of the Berbice Cricket Board organized 2009 Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 tournament, joining Rose Hall Town Bakewell who booked their place earlier having defeated No. 70 in their quarter-final encounter.
The three teams booked their respective places after taking first innings points against their opponents; Albion getting past Port Mourant, Rose Hall Canje squeezing through at the expense of West Berbice while D’Edward upset favourites Tucber Park.
At the Canje ground, Rose Hall Canje batted first and posted 142 in 57.2 of their allotted 60 overs with Udesh Imrit scoring 35 and Kevin Ramdeen 23.
S. Peterkin took 2-22 and Brandon Balkissoon 2-34 for West Berbice, who in reply were dismissed for 139 in 32 overs despite a brave 80 from Sahadeo Harripaul and 36 from Kurt Griffith. Ramdeen returned with the ball to claim 4-50 and Imrit 4-58 for Rose Hall Canje.
At the D’ Edward ground, Tucber Park after losing the toss fell for a disappointing 106 with Kevin Leitch 24, Andel De Jonge 23 and Romario De Jonge 23 the only batters to offer any resistance as Derick Lalsa grabbed 5-20.
Lalsa then hit a quick fire 34 and together with Kelon Jawahir 22 ensured that D’ Edward overhauled the total, being bowled out for 121 in 42 overs to claim first innings.
Batting a second time, Tucber Park declared at 106-6; Jamally Odle hitting 64 while Lalsa competed a fine all round match with 5-56. D’ Edward ended the match at 10-4 in their second innings.
At the Port Mourant ground, Albion batting first rattled up a challenging 183 all out; Rajendra Dasrat 53 and S. Ramcharran with 37 the main contributors. Manoj Looknauth 4-35 and off spinner Shailendra Shameer 3-37 did the damage with the ball for Port Mourant Cricket Club who were dismissed for a paltry 81.
Only Rajendra Singh 18 and Looknauth 16 offered any semblance of a fight as the others failed to negotiate the guile of national left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai who had bowling figures of 7-31. Albion batting a second time reached 28 without loss when play ended.
Rose Hall Town Bakewell will play D’ Edward at the Area “H” ground in the first semi-final on Saturday while on Sunday, Albion and Rose Hall Canje will clash at the Canje ground.
