While quite a few entries have been collected already for the 2010 Carib Soca monarch competition, Event Co-ordinator Nigel Worrell said all who wish to contest the crown have up to Thursday to submit their entries for a shot at the title.
Noting that Mashramani would not be complete without Soca music, he said that he is also accustomed to a rash of entries two days prior to closing date.
He said that from the entries received, reigning Monarch Shelly G is in for some stiff competition. Entry forms are still available at the Mash Secretariat and at the Ansa McAl Beterverwagting head office.
While not saying what the prizes this year would be, he said that the prizes up for grabs, aside from the crown and bragging rights, should be substantially bigger than in previous years.
He neither confirmed nor denied that ‘Rubber Waist’ Jumo is among the entries received but said that several new faces are likely.
The Semi finals are slated for Linden on January 30 with the finals carded for the National Park on February 20. This publication has also confirmed that after consideration and careful thought, three times Soca Monarch, Adrian Dutchin, will not be in the competition this year.
Past monarchs include Compton ‘Coody’ Hodges, Adrian Dutchin, Marlon ‘Malo’ Webster, and Shelly G. The competition in its seventh year and Adrian Dutchin is the lone artiste to have won the title three times.
