A Wakenaam labourer was pronounced dead on arrival at the Wakenaam Cottage Hospital after he fell from a verandah at Meer Zorg Village, on the island.
According to reports, 25-year-old Alvin Ramdass, popularly known as “Barlow”, was imbibing alcohol on the verandah of a dwelling house. He was reportedly sitting on the rail of the verandah when he fell backward to the concrete floor some 13 feet below.
He was pronounced dead when he reached the Wakenaam Hospital.
The persons who took Barlow to the hospital abandoned the body of the dead man in front of the dressing room of the hospital and went away. His body was later taken to Leguan Island for storage.
The police have since held one man for questioning. A post mortem is expected to be carried out on the body soon.
