Two mobile generators are expected to be in operation by next week to ease the power woes of West Demerara.
Speaking with Kaieteur News yesterday on the West Demerara situation, Chairman of the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL), Winston Brassington, said that workers are busy preparing the site at Leonora.
By the end of the week, residents will see an ease to blackouts there.
The West Demerara area has been plagued by outages due to generation shortfall.
Meanwhile, explaining the continuing, sporadic outages in the Central Demerara area, the Chairman said that back in October when the company was hit by outages, two Wartsila engines scheduled for overhaul had to be used overtime to meet demands. These are being overhauled, he said.
Already, works on one had been completed and it is already back in operation. By this weekend, the other engine is expected to be placed into operation.
Additionally, the official said, one of the new Wartsila engines at Kingston is out of operation and is awaiting a part which is expected by this weekend.
“If all goes well, as I am told, by this weekend, these two engines will be added to the system and we will have sufficient spare capacity to avoid any loadshedding.”
