Landlord demolishes Boyo’s Fashion, evicts storeowner
As the Christmas seasons grows closer and businesses offers more diversity, one business entity, Boyo’s Style and Fashion, was displaced yesterday as a team of men started to demolish the building that housed Boyo’s Fashion.
As persons lined the street to watch employees of the store scurry to empty the valuables from the building and place them in a truck, there were angry persons shouting profanity at the persons involved in the demolition.
According to the Manager, “They have not even warned us. There is an issue between Gafoors Limited and National Hardware where a problem has arisen as to who should be collecting the rent, as Boyo’s pays Gafoors and National Hardware is demanding that we pay them the rent.”
However, National Hardware said that it is in no way associated with the building. A spokesperson said that National Hardware owns the fenced property at the corner of Alexander and Regent Streets.
Gafoor’s objected to being implicated. And City Hall said that it was not involved, that the demolition crew did not come from its Engineer’s Department.
According to an employee permission was given to break down the two structures that is said to be illegal. “We don’t know who to go to and if the city council has any idea what is going on.”
One contention was that the extensions to the building created a fire hazard since there was no passageway between the business place and the buildings next door.
According to sources the structures were illegal and permission was given to tear it down.
Personnel of Gafoors said that the matter is sub-judice and that no comment will be made pertaining to the topic.
