Even as the world is witnessing one of the most severe global recessions in the post-war period that has affected many countries in varying degrees, foreign trade and foreign direct investments continue to play a vital role in the economic development of most regions.
Twelve accolades were handed out on Thursday night to businesses and one individual when the Guyana Manufacturing Services Association held its dinner and award ceremony at the Pegasus.
Guyana Stock Inc. topped the list and was awarded the H.E Award for Export Achievement in recognition of the Company’s significant growth in export sales of Angel Parboil Rice by (50%) in the domestic and Regional Markets.
In recognition of Howard Bulkan’s outstanding contribution through the Bulkan Timber Works to boosting the image of the GMSA with efficient timber-based products he was awarded the GMSA Lifetime award.
The managing director’s contributions at both the domestic and regional markets were among the reasons that he was awarded. The regional markets resulted in him winning a prestigious International award and in his absence his eldest son Justin collected the award.
National Milling Company of Guyana, Tandy’s Manufacturing, Demerara Distillers Ltd., Fibre Tech Industrial Plastics, John Fernandes Ltd. and Arawak Shoe manufacturing also received the Guyana Manufacturing Services Association President’s awards.
National Milling Company of Guyana was recognised for its achievement of being accredited “ISO 9001: 2008” certification and expansion of its product line.
Tandy’s Manufacturing was recognised for the Company’s growth in domestic Market share through innovative packaging and labelling.
Demerara Distillers Limited was recognised for the Company’s commissioning of a new bottling plant which will significantly improve competitiveness globally.
Fibre Tech Industrial Plastics was recognised for its successful export movement in the Caribbean Market of its fibreglass cupboards and bathtubs.
John Fernandes Limited was recognised for the company’s sustained contribution of a high standard for over half a century primarily in the Transportation & Agro-processing sectors.
Arawak Shoe Manufacturing was recognised for the Company’s use of indigenous raw materials in the manufacturing of leather craft products.
Eric Benjamin collected the EmpretecoAward for the his Design Perspectives for demonstrating the true spirit of Entrepreneurship based on the EMPRETEC methodology of scientific application, innovativeness and creativity in new product design, within a framework of environmental consciousness.
