The President and Executive Committee of the Berbice Cricket Board has expressed gratitude to Senior Team Manager – David Black, Coach – Adrian Amsterdam, Captain – Assad Fudadin and members of the Berbice Cricket Team for winning both the One-Day and Four-Day Inter County competitions organized by the Guyana Cricket Board.
On Friday November 20 last, Berbice humbled Demerara by 7 wickets to make a clean sweep of the four day tournament after defeating the Rest Team and Essequibo in the earlier rounds.
The Teams’ victory in both tournaments confirm that Berbice cricket is on the improve and they are moving in the right direction. According to the BCB, the new administration is determined that the County must be the flag bearer of excellence on and off the field and since 2008 has implemented numerous new programmes which has started to produce results as the pride, passion and commitment has returned to Berbice Cricket.
The BCB release noted, “This double success mirrors the clean sweep of our Under-19 team earlier this year and come next year the Board’s aim is to make a complete sweep of all GCB tournaments including the Under-15 and female tournaments which they failed to win this year.
The Berbice Cricket Board would like to salute the outstanding performers this year especially Assad Fudadin – most runs and Veerasammy Permaul – most wickets while special mention must be made of debutants Arthley Bailey, Rajiv Ivan and Ranga Latchana who all provided evidence that Berbice cricket has a lots of talent.”
“The victory at the four-day level was achieved due to the commitment, hard work, team unity and visionary leadership of the management and players.”
The BCB said it is dedicating the victories especially to all sponsors of their programmes, clubs in the County who all work very hard to develop their players and also to the fans that are once again turning out at games at all levels across Berbice as the passion and pride spreads.
Executive Committee members have said they are proud of the progress they have made over the past two years and pledged that the BCB would continue to build on the progress they have made so far.
The BCB is calling on all Cricket Boards and administrators in Guyana to follow their footsteps by putting cricket first and to stop the internal wrangling, battle for personal positions and cricket politics while dedicating all their energies towards the development of the game and players. “Our youths are our most valuable assets and we must never allow petty differences to stop or affect their development.”
