First-Class player Zaheer Mohamed produced a Man-of-the-match performance to lead Enterprise Busta Sports Club ‘A’ to victory against Lusignan in last Saturday’s Busta 20/20 cricket final at the Enterprise ground.
Mohamed, only a few seasons ago one of the best off-spinners in the Region, top scored with 51 as Enterprise made 145-7 off their allotted 20 overs as Demerara under-19 Captain Rajendra Naikbarran took 4-26 from his 4 overs. Lusignan replied with 133 for 8 in 20 overs as Vishnu Ramjit made 33.
Leg-spinner Chatterpaul Singh had 3-22 while Mohamed, whose deliveries and mental approach to bowling has become very defensive, finished with 2-14 in a format of the game which now best suits his low delivery stride and open-chest action.
Naikbarran took the prize for the Best bowler in the final while Mohamed collected prizes for being the Best Batsman and hitting the biggest six.
The winner received a trophy and $50,000 while the runner-up took home a trophy and $25,000
Earlier, in the first semi-final, Enterprise Busta ‘A’ team beat Unity by 40 runs after National player Rajendra Chandrika led the way for the home with an attractive 75 as his team made 137-5 in their allotted 15 overs. Unity could only reach 97-7 when their overs expired as Chandrika finished a good match with 2-9 off 2 overs.
In the 2nd semi-final, Enterprise Busta Sports Club ‘B’ team lost to Lusignan by 9 wickets after falling for 67. Krishna Deosarran then hit 32 and Ramjit an unbeaten 29 as Lusignan qualified for the final by racing to 68-1 in 5.3 overs.
