Melanie Patriots upset Maccabees

Dyna’s Ravens joined Courts Pacesetters in the second round in the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) First Division Knockout Tournament when the team had a convincing victory against Eagles Saturday night.
The number two ranked Division 1 club in Georgetown thrashed Eagles 99-46 to advance to the next round of the competition. Ravens gathered the victory against the backdrop of reacquiring Dwayne ‘Sugar’ Roberts from Linden.
Kaieteur Sport understands that the national forward successfully completed the required transfer from Linden’s Victory Valley Royals to the highly ranked Ravens. Roberts had a previous stint with the club under Lugard Mohan.
Rodwell Fortune led the offensive proceedings for Ravens in the emphatic win against an Eagles’ unit that returned to competitive basketball after years of absence, with 27 points while Roberts had 17 and Ryan Gullen 13 points.
Mark Willis scored 13 points for the number nine ranked Eagles while Linden Smith had 11 points and Brimsley McCurdy 10 points as Eagles became the second casualty, joining bottom rated East/West Fire out of the competition.
Meanwhile, new addition to the GABA Third Division pool, Melanie Patriots registered a definite threat and immediate success when they ousted the number three ranked Division III club in the City, Maccabees from the tournament.
Patriots edged Maccabees 56-51 after the latter held on a one-point 28-27 lead at halftime before slumping to a 40-37 deficit heading into the final quarter. Floyd Arthur had 18 and Maxwell Thomas 15 points in the thrilling upset.
National junior players, Yannick Dundas and Wainright Haynes led Maccabees’ with 16 and 17 points respectively. The competition continued last night at the Sports Hall with a triple header that featured Colours Panthers against Nets.
The GABA’s First and Third Division Knockout Tournaments were launched Wednesday at their Garnett Street office. Lens Craft, HJTV, Windjammer International and Facts and Roses are official sponsors of the inaugural event.
