Dear Editor,
I have been following the recent development in relation to the sale of a building on 93 Duke Street, Kingston.
I feel compelled to write this little note to alert the President of this nation to follow the right procedure and conclude this sale to the next highest bidder. It will once again show the world at large that some amount of fairness and transparency are being exercised in our beautiful country as it relates to the sale of State properties.
It is very embarrassing to read the recent articles in the press. They definitely do not do well for the Government of the day. My question is, “why were there no economic considerations when Cabinet awarded the highest bidder the property?
Since there were no economic considerations for the highest bidder, if the highest bidder opts to withdraw his bid, then it is only fair to give the second bidder a chance to conclude the sale without any economic consideration.
I am also sure that the second highest bidder must have a plan for the building before he entered into the bidding process. If economic consideration is a criteria then ask the bidder how he can benefit the Government and in what way, compare the two and whoever is more attractive, while still considering price and the other factors, you give it to them.
Mr. President, all of Guyana now awaits your actions. Do the right thing and we all will be proud of you and your Government.
